A 4 in 1 crib also known as a convertible crib grows with your baby. This is the most popular type of convertible crib and can change into the following beds:
- toddler bed
- full/twin bed
These type of beds are designed to grow as your child grows which makes them a great choice for many parents.
The 4 in 1 baby crib is not the only type of convertible crib. There are 3 types of conversion levels for these type of cribs.
Before purchasing you should decide how many levels of conversions will suit your needs.
It’s important to know that:
The more conversion options the crib has, the more the crib will cost.
The more conversion options the crib has, the more use you will get out of the crib.
The more use you get out of the crib, the longer you will have the crib.
The longer you have the crib, the less money you spend on furniture for your kids room.
The less money you spend on furniture for your kids room, the more you can spend on a really nice console table.
You can see on the table below the 3 types of convertible cribs along with the different positions they convert to:
Types of Convertible Crib
|2 in 1 Convertible Crib||1. Standard crib
2. full/twin size bed
|3 in 1 Convertible Crib||1. Standard crib
3. full/twin size bed
|4 in 1 Convertible Crib||1. Standard crib
2. toddler bed
4. full/twin size bed
They all convert from crib to full/twin bed, it’s the ‘in between’ beds you have to decide if you want or not.
Worth the Upfront Cost
Although these types of cribs cost more then regular cribs, what you save in future furniture cost far out way the larger initial cost.
Because 4 in 1 convertible cribs have such an advantage over regular cribs, many parents are really taking a good look at them.
These types of beds allow parent to purchase a single piece of furniture one time and use it at several different stages throughout their child’s life.
This one purchase is possibly saving:
- shipping fees
- packing material
And probably so much more, think about it. You won’t have to go out and purchase a toddler or twin bed if you purchased a 4 in 1 crib.
All you have to do is change the crib to a toddler bed, and don’t think your kid won’t get a kick out of that.
Changing their bed from a crib to a toddler bed? They no longer have to wait for you to come and take them out. That is unless they were a climber and the crib didn’t even hold them in 🙂
None the less they can’t wait to get out of that brand new toddler bed fifty plus times a night so you can put them back in only so they can get back out again.
Little known to so many new unsuspecting parents – Going from crib to toddler bed puts you on a whole new journey with your new toddler as they explore the depths of your true patience with their constant getting in and out and in and out of their brand new toddler bed.
You might want to make sure your convertible crib comes with toddler rails because many of them don’t. If you happen to check the questions on Amazon, you will see some people got toddler rails with their crib and others didn’t.
Maybe it had something to do with the color they purchased, I don’t know. But if you’re really concerned about getting them I would contact the seller and ask if they come with the order before purchasing.
Get Them on Amazon
If the crib you want doesn’t come with toddler rails that’s no problem because you can get them from Amazon. There are so many different kind you’re sure to find something you like.
You can also read the reviews to get an idea of how good the product is. Some reviewers might even have pictures of the item in use.

So the crib not having toddler rails is not an issue at all, you can always purchase them later when they’re needed.
Almost all of the mattress are sold separately so be prepared to purchase one. Most 4 in 1 baby cribs take a standard size crib mattress but make sure you check what size the crib you want to purchase will need.
That way you can order it when you order the crib and hopefully they will arrive at about the same time and you don’t have to wait on the mattress..
You can take a look at mattresses on Amazon and find the one just right for your needs. You’ll also be able to read what others have to say about any product before you purchase it.
Bestseller Standard Baby Crib Mattresses
Adjustable Mattress Heights
An adjustable mattress not only provides safety and convenience it allows the mattress to be lowered as your child grows.
The highest position makes it easy to get to a new born baby. Lower the mattress as your baby grows so they won’t be tempted to climb out.
This unfortunately is not going to work for every baby. Some of you will find out that you live with spider baby and nothing will keep them in the crib.
The lowest mattress position is used on an older child’s bed so they can easily get in and out.
Convertible cribs can be much more stylish then regular cribs. Take a look at some of these, they look like works of art:
With so many colors, styles and designs offered you won’t have a problem finding the one just right for your babies nursery.
Strong and Durable
They are also more durable then a normal crib because they are designed to be used longer and are constructed to withstand the abundant activity of babies and toddlers.
Attached Dresser and Changing Table
Some of these cribs come with an attached dressers that can be detached from the crib and used as a night stand when the crib is changed to a bed.
Under Crib Storage
Some many offer extra storage under the crib. This storage area can also be used when crib is changed to a bed.
Since these products are shipped, they will all require assembly. They come with instructions and if they don’t you can contact the seller or find them online.
Many can be put together by one person however others would benefit with the help of someone else.
Most come with an allen wrench, you will also need a screw driver which is not included.
Crib Safety Is Top Priority
For safety reasons all convertible cribs are designed with fixed sides meaning that none of the sides drop or slid down so you can reach in to get your baby.
Cribs with drop sides are dangerous and have been banned. You can read more about them here:
